What is a word cloud generator?

A word cloud generator is a tool that creates a visual representation of the words in a text. It takes a text as input and generates a word cloud, which is a visual representation of the words in the text. The size of each word in the word cloud is proportional to its frequency in the text. The more times a word appears in the text, the larger it will appear in the word cloud.

Word clouds are often used to visualize the most common words in a text and identify patterns or trends. They can be useful for summarizing the content of a document, analyzing the frequency of words, or identifying key themes or topics. Word clouds are also visually appealing and can be used to create engaging visualizations of text data.

Word Cloud options

You can customize the appearance of the word cloud by changing the word cloud options:

  • Relative size - The size slider controls the relative size of the words in the word cloud. You can adjust the size of the words to make them larger or smaller in the word cloud. Different wordlist compositions need different sizes to be readable. Adjust the size until the word cloud is to your liking.
  • Word spacing - The word spacing slider controls the spacing between words in the word cloud. A smaller spacing means that small words will fit between the larger words, while a larger spacing will create more space between words. Adjusting the spacing will also make the word cloud more compact or spread out. This can be useful if you have a lot of words in the word cloud and want to make it easier to read.
  • Colors - Choose the colors used in the word cloud. You can select either random, which will randomly assign colors to each word, or a specific color palette. You can choose between differen gradients a solid gradient, ehich will color each word with the same intensity, a linear gradient which will create a smooth transition between word weights from dark to light, or a random gradient, which will randomly assign a gradient to each word. Finallym you can control the intensity of the gradient scale, if you chose a linear or solid gradient.
  • Canvas color - Choose the background color of the word cloud. You can select between any color in the color picker, which also includes a transparency slider. Make sure to decrease the transparency from 0 if you want to make it visible against the page background, as the default is 0, which will make the background transparent.

Word list options

You can also customize how the word list used to generate the word cloud is created if you create the list from a normal text. Here are the options available:

  • Minimal word length - Set the minimum length of words to include in the word cloud. All words shorter than this length will be excluded. This can be useful if you want to exclude short words that are not stop words, or short non-standard words.
  • Top - Limit the number of words to include in the word cloud. Only the top N words will be included. Normally this is not needed, but it can be useful if you only want to see the most common words.
  • Minimal frequency - Set the minimum frequency of words to include in the word cloud. Only words that appear more than this number of times will be included.
  • Ignore case - Ignore case differences in words. For example, A and a will be treated as the same word. This is the most common option to enable, as it ensures that words like hello and Hello are treated as the same word.
  • Ignore stopwords - Exclude common stopwords from the word cloud. Stopwords are common words like the, and, and is that are often excluded from text analysis. Many times you might not be interested in these words, so you can exclude them from the word cloud.
  • Normalize diacritics - Normalize diacritics in words. For example, café and cafe will be treated as the same word. In the word cloud output, the diacritics will be removed, so our example would show cafe as the word.
  • Include numbers - Include numbers in the word cloud. If this option is enabled, numbers will be treated as words and included in the word cloud. For example if the text contains a word like cloud9, it will be treated as a single word and included in the word cloud as cloud9, whereas if the option is disabled, it would be counted as only cloud.
  • Include non-words - Include non-words in the word cloud. If this option is enabled, non-words will be treated as words and included in the word cloud. Non-words are sequences of characters that are not recognized as words, such as URLs, email addresses, and special characters. Even punctuation would be counted and end? would show up in the word cloud as end? instead of end.
  • Include non-ASCII - Include non-ASCII characters in the word cloud. If this option is enabled, non-ASCII characters will be treated as words and included in the word cloud. Non-ASCII characters are characters that are not part of the ASCII character set, such as emojis and special symbols. For example, if the text contains an emoji like 😊, it will be treated as a word and included in the word cloud.

We are Lime Convert

Lime Convert was created after we found ourselves wanting something more out of the free conversion tools that we were using online. The tools were either too simple or too cluttered and convoluted. We wanted something that was highly functional and simple on the surface, yet customizable and powerful underneath. We wanted a tool that was extremely easy to use but still had all the features we needed and more.

Less Is More Expanded. Lime Convert is designed around these principles. We hope you ❤️ it.
